S2S Electronics Statement Regarding WEEE Directive (2002/96) Amendment (2003/108) And RoHS Directive (2002/95) The WEEE directive is a new European directive aiming to promote the reuse and recycling as opposed to landfill of end of life electrical and electronic waste in the European market. This is a producer responsibility directive with producers responsible for the collection and treatment of equipment from January 2006. The directive applies to most consumer products and some industrial products.
The RoHS directive is in addition to this, legislating for all new electrical equipment put on the market after 1st July 2006 to be free from certain substances. This includes, Lead, Mercury, Cadmium, Hexavalent Chromium, Polybrominated Biphenyls and Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers.
After careful consideration of both these directives and the scope of them, we have come to the conclusion that the Electronics Soft Start product is Outside the scope of the directives in the UK.
As part of our Environmental Management system and continuous improvement we are able to offer a take back and recycling service for soft start products through our sister company RID UK Ltd. Whilst we have no legal obligation we also fully intend to offer a RoHS compliant soft start product to the market. We cannot advise of exact dates yet until we are happy with availability of parts and long term reliability of replacements. We will advise as soon as we have this date.
