Although Soft Starts are most commonly used on standard AC cage motors it is also possible to use Soft Starts on more unusual applications and Softstart Direct Ltd have had experience on the following different applications.
Soft Starts can be used on slip ring motors but a single stage resistance is normally maintained in the rotor to maintain he torque/amp ratio of the motor. Once the motor is up to speed the resistance is shorted out. The value of resistance is critical and Softstart Direct can calculate this. Please see our application questionnaire.
Soft Start can be used on two speed motors in either pole change or dual wound (Dahlander) circuit. The Soft Start is selected either for both or a single speed to ensure smooth acceleration on applications such as mixers.
Soft Starts can be used on Linear Motors with special software that allows rapid switching and very fast ramp times to accelerate the motors used on transportation and leisure rides.
Using the Soft Starts standard - 0 – 10V inputs the output voltage of the soft start can be controlled proportionally. This variable voltage output can be used for 3 phase Heater Banks on Drying Lines.
