Standards

BSEN60947-4-2

Part of the 60947 series this relatively new standard is the international standard for 'AC semiconductor controller's.The standard requires manufactures to meet specific requirements for the design and testing of soft start controllers. The major requirements are a series of type tests on controllers, which includes operating capability, temperature rise tests, EMC testing and short circuit testing 947-4-2 means the manufacture must clearly state the overload capability of the Soft Starts and all Softstart Direct Soft Starts are designed to meet class 10 at 6 x FLC for 6 seconds. This standard also means that product labelling must show the overload rating and number of starts per hour so the user can see ratings clearly and product comparisons can be done on a like for like basis. BSEN947-4-2 is an important standard and users should ensure manufactures can provide a certificate of conformity.

EMC & Low Voltage Directive

Softstart Direct Soft Starts meet both the EMC directives and low voltage directives as defined in BSEN60947-4-2. Softstart Direct Soft Starts are fully compliant regardless of whether the soft start is left in circuit or by-passed. A bypass contactor is NOT mandatory to ensure compliance and no external filtering is required.

WEEE

Whilst not current, legislation future legislation will mean manufacturers will be responsible for the waste from electrical products at the 'end of life'. This will mean initial design will have to consider how products can be recycled and manufacturers will have to inform users of specific contents of material and how to recycle or dispose of it. Softstart Direct are at the forefront of this future legislation and already offer customers a return scheme for old or damaged equipment when it is replaced. This means Softstart Direct will take back, such equipment and ensure what can be recycled is recycled and anything else is disposed of with a duty of care.
